The Simple Things – Saying “Well Done” Head of School, Matthew Gibson

On Wednesday night we celebrated the achievement and effort of students in Years 7-10 at our Lower School Awards Evening. It was terrific to celebrate with the students who received awards and to see how well they were supported by their parents and carers.

Whether it be in traditional academic subjects, sport, the arts, technology, ICT, outdoor education, the list could go on, Castle Manor students have, all year, shown themselves to be willing to rise to any challenge, including that of leadership.

This week I’ve been giving an assembly about “Simple Things” inspired by one of our thoughts for the day, which stated, “One day I will find the right words and they will be simple” – one of the phrases I’ve been investigating is “Well Done” – I’ve been sharing with the students how much pleasure I and other staff get from dropping into lessons and seeing what students are doing, giving out certificates and awards and saying “well done”. After all, we all like to receive praise.

In the week when over 200 students will have been on the Rewards Trip as recognition of their excellent attendance and consistently high levels of effort throughout the year, it really has been a week to “Feel Proud” of the achievements of students at Castle Manor.
