Castle Manor Academy has a team of dedicated students who address green issues in the Academy and its local community. The students are divided into two groups, for which students have to apply and commit to for the academic year. There are 16 eco committee students and 42 eco reps. The eco team monitor all energy use in the Academy and address the issues to reduce it. They recycle plastics, papers and textiles from the classrooms. They are one of the first winners of the Every can Counts green can award. They fundraise for new projects, as well as raising the profile of green issues through themes of the week and whole school assemblies. Castle Manor has achieved the silver eco school award and is currently working on achieving the green flag, a prestigious award which no other Suffolk secondary school holds as yet! Local businesses such as Sanofi, Specialized print and The Design Office are kindly supporting our eco projects. Castle Manor Academy proudly holds the title of Suffolk’s ‘Greenest School 2014’. The award was given to us to recognise the impact of the eco team. Most of the eco committee have won Blue Peter green badges for the work they have done to make Castle Manor a greener place to be.
