Letter from Head of School

Dear Parents/Carers,

Since my last letter we have had our second academic tutoring day and were very pleased to have improved our attendance on this day to 95.2%. We have issued copies of the targets to students to store in their Manorfiles and will issue parental copies this week. We continue to listen to your feedback and hope that you found our amended versions of report cards easier to understand and use with your child. I am also aware that many of you are keen to meet with subject teachers and I wanted to emphasise that you are welcome to contact subject teachers at any time for feedback and to arrange meetings – you can do this directly, via the Head of House or Tutor, or through my PA, Mrs Mitchell- GMitchell@castlepartnership.org.uk.

Our new group of Duke of Edinburgh Award students has started and they joined together for some first aid training at the Haverhill Sports Centre – I am looking forward to seeing them getting involved in their expeditions as the term goes on. We have also had lots of sporting success, with our Year 8 Basketball team reaching the County Finals.

Myself and Ms Vigar have been meeting with Year 11 students to discuss their approaches to the next few weeks and months and the support we have in place for them. I have really enjoyed this – our students are such a credit to you all and their maturity and focus is excellent.

Our Year 9 students head off on their postponed trip to the Flanders Battlefields just before half term. Having visited the area for the first time myself last year I know they will have a fantastic and awe inspiring time as they learn about life in the trenches many years ago.

Year 9 also have their Pathways evening on Tuesday 9th February, starting at 5.30pm. They will have an in school assembly this week on Friday to give them key information to get them thinking about the subjects they will take in Years 10 and 11. It is a key evening and I encourage you to make sure that you attend with your child.

Thank you for your work ensuring that your children are bringing their Manorfiles to school. We are working hard to make sure that they are well used to record key information, such as dates of exams, trips, and home learning.

Finally, Tuesday 9th February is Safer Internet Day, and it is timely I think to remind you of the importance of monitoring your child’s use of the internet and having clear conversations about internet safety. This link http://www.saferinternet.org.uk/ has some particular resources for parents, including some key questions to use with children to discuss internet safety.

Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Whitcombe
