Dear Parents and Carers,
The Student Parliament has an active role within our School Community. In our last meeting, students decided it would be nice to update parents with a ‘Letter from the Students’ similar to that one you receive from the Mrs Whitcombe, but from a student’s perspective. Two of our youngest members have written the March edition. We hope you enjoy the updates!
There is a lot going on in school at the moment. We are currently preparing for Red Nose Day on Friday 24th March. A number of students are organising bake sales to raise money, and another group are organising a ‘sponge the Teachers’ at lunchtime. We will make sure we include photos of this in the next update!
In Year 7 this summer we are going camping from 14th – 15th July 2017. We asked Mrs Baldwin about it and she said “we hope that most students will decide to stay and camp over night with a BBQ, bonfire, marshmallows, hot chocolate and lots of laughs for all. The cost, including BBQ and to camp is £22.The school has enough tents for everybody as well as some sleeping bags to loan out.”
In maths, we have been learning about the four operations with fractions. We are now starting to learn about multiplication and division in general. We are learning about different ways to show this and how easy it is to understand each method.
In PE on Mondays girls are doing basketball and practising their technique. The girls who do PE on Thursdays are doing badminton and refining their racquet skills. On 23/03/2017 4 girls went to a Samuel Ward Academy Trust Badminton Competition. Ashika, Indie-Rose, Alexsandra and Marta came 2nd and 3rd respectively out of 15 pairs, well done girls! The boys PE group on a Monday are doing fitness. The other boys PE group on a Thursday are doing gymnastics.
In English we are reading a story called ‘Badger on The Barge’. We have been answering questions and writing PEE structured paragraphs based on the book. We have also been reading different exam style texts, writing PEE structured paragraphs and having discussions about the writing style and use of different language, such as alliteration.
We hope you enjoyed the update,
Have a lovely Easter!
