Letter from the Head Of School

Dear Parents/Carers,

This is my final letter of the term – how quickly Easter has approached us! We are looking forward to seeing you for Academic Tutoring Day tomorrow to discuss progress and set targets for the term ahead. We sent reports out further in advance this time in response to your feedback and I do hope that you are finding them helpful.

Last week we had two excellent evening performances. Our Dance show featured young people from the age of 11-18 performing on stage in a wide variety of different styles. Our ‘Night at the Musicals’ saw Castle Manor, Place Farm and Burton End students all performing musicals themed items. We even saw a sneak preview of a scene from The Wizard of Oz, our upcoming school production in July.

Our Year 7 basketball team reached the County Final and came a very close second place last week – we are really proud of how they have developed as a team under Mr Bonas’ coaching.

Year 11 have almost completed their English Speaking and Listening exams, and are completing Photography and PE practical exams this week. They are also attending Easter revision school to supplement the revision work they are doing at home. The first written exams are early in May and will come round very quickly. Their individual exam timetables were posted home last week so they can really implement their detailed revision plans.

We are collating the options choices that Year 9 students have chosen to start the beginning of our timetabling process. We will be in touch with individual students over the coming weeks to secure the choices and deal with any clashes or concerns.

Last Friday Year 8 went on a school trip to the Big Bang science exhibition, a really fantastic interactive event where they have joined in hands on workshops, practical sessions and lectures. I hope it has inspired future scientists! On the same day our Dance students enjoyed a trip to London where they got to dance with the dance troop IMD, a very exciting time for them!

Our CCF cadets undertook their first Inspection Day over at Culford School. They marched, paraded and were inspected by high ranking forces officers. They were treated to a flypast and were accompanied by the band of the Royal Parachutes. A fantastic opportunity where our students really shone.

We look forward to Wednesday 23rd March, our second Year 7 performance project – the Haverhill Heroes Awards at the Haverhill Arts Centre. A fantastic event to celebrate the heroes in our community.

As always, please do contact me at any time via my PA GMitchell@Castlepartnership.org.uk to organise an appointment to see me, or email me directly on VWhitcombe@castlepartnership.org.uk if there is anything you would like to discuss.

Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Whitcombe Head of School
