Letter from the Head of School

Dear Parents/Carers,

Another two weeks has passed quickly, and we are settled into the Spring Term well. I have seen some fantastic learning in my walks through school and have been very impressed with our students approach to the new term.

The weather has taken a cold turn, and I reference you to my letter last week regarding bad weather. We always try to keep the school open, but any particularly difficult weather can sometime lead to a need to make decisions to start the day later or to close the school. I have noticed a large number of children who are not wearing coats to school in this weather, please can you encourage your child to wear a suitable warm, waterproof coat which will keep them warm both to and from school and on the journey between our two sites. ‘Hoodie’ style tops are not suitable school wear and do not fulfil the purpose of a coat, therefore they are not permitted.

We are focusing across the school on the use of the Manorfile to support learning. The Manorfile acts as a key communication method between home and school, and parents are required to check and sign the Manorfile weekly. Please make sure you do this and take note of home learning that has been set. You will also be able to see any behaviour consequences that may have been issued to your child and discuss these with them. The Manorfile should be brought to school every day by every student, as well appropriate equipment, which I suggest is in a pencil case. It helps us very much when parents check regularly that children have their equipment with them, so thank you for your support.

Lots of our subjects use exercise books to complete work. I am keen that parents see the work that children are doing at school and I am more than happy for children to bring their books home – as long as they remember to bring them back in for their next lesson in that subject. Please encourage your child to do this so that you can see their hard work and discuss it with them.

We have Year 11 Maths, English and Science parents evening this evening, if you need a last minute appointment please see the letter with the booking codes on the website, or telephone the school to book. There are only a few appointments left.

A reminder that Academic Tutoring Day for Years 7-11 is on Wednesday this week, and for Years 12-13 on Thursday this week. Year 9 Pathways evening is on February 9th. Please make sure that your child brings their Manorfile to their meeting. We will be collecting Manorfiles for Years 7, 8 and 11 in to monitor their use on this day.

As always, please do contact me on VWhitcombe@castlepartnership.org.uk or my PA on GMitchell@castlepartnership.org.uk if you would like to book an appointment to come and see me or any of the leadership team.

Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Whitcombe

Head of School
