Letter from the Head of School

Dear Parents and Carers

I very much hope that you have enjoyed time with family and friends over the festive season and wish you all the very best for 2016. My team and I look forward to continuing my work with you and your children in this new year.

We had a very busy Autumn term, and I hope this letter updates you well. We have had weekly local press presence since half term. Celebrating our work at school and in the community through activities like the shoe box appeal led by some of our Sixth Formers, our Celebration of Achievement evening in November and our fantastic Year 7 Roald Dahl performance project evening. We have also launched Year 7s next project with significant community partners, including the Haverhill Echo. Thank you for your nominations of people suitable to receive these awards, we look forward to seeing the outcomes of the shortlisting process.

We said goodbye to some colleagues at the end of term; Mr Barratt, Mrs Sargent, Mrs Weir and Miss Penney. We celebrated their time with us and thanked them for their contributions to our school. We therefore welcome some new colleagues joining us in January. We welcome Ms Cassels, who is a very experienced Science Teacher and Leader. She will be taking the role of Lead Practitioner, working to develop Learning and Teaching further in the Science Team. Mr Ford- Compton joins the Maths Team. Mrs Leeming joins the English Team 3 days per week and Miss Brooks joins the Humanities team to cover for Mrs Jones’ maternity leave. Mr Gardiner will also be away from school for 6 weeks completing his second placement for his SNITT English Teacher training course. His lessons will be taught by the English Team.

The leadership team is strengthened by the continuation of Mrs Stoneham’s work within Castle Manor. She will be working with us for 4 days per week focusing on Curriculum and Assessment, whilst still continuing work with our Primary Schools ensuring our Allthrough PROUD curriculum continues to flourish.

The new terms brings many focuses- for Year 11 continuation of Mock exams and building up to practical exams. Key Stage 5 Mock exams take place, and Year 9 start to focus on choosing their options for GCSE. Pathways evening for Year 9 will be on Tuesday 9th February, please keep that date in your diary.
