Letter from Headteacher

Dear Parents/Carers,

It has been fantastic to welcome our students back this morning following the Christmas break. I very much hope that you have been able to enjoy the celebrations.

We return refreshed and ready for what will be a very rapid term ahead. With only just over 5 weeks until half term there is a lot to fit in.

I started today with an Assembly for Years 10 and 11 and will be talking to Years 7, 8 and 9 tomorrow. I have used a theme that was introduced to teaching staff in our Professional Development Day yesterday. I posed the question, ‘You are writing the story of your life, you hold the pen. What is your next chapter’. It seems a very good way to start the new term and new year. Working together with our young people, school and home have such influence on students but the accountability for writing their story ultimately sits with the decisions they make and the boundaries and guidance we give them together. Thank you for everything you do to create the conditions for children to learn. Ensuring that your child has their correct uniform and equipment and arrives on time to school really does make a huge difference to their day and the quality of their learning.

We have three staff members who are undertaking a short placement at another school as part of their ongoing professional development this term. Mrs Humphry, Miss Spurling and Mr Ford- Compton will have some time out of their teaching at Castle Manor to gain experience elsewhere in the Trust. We welcome Mrs Conway-Jarrett to our Maths team to teach some of Mrs Humphry’s lessons and other Maths lessons will be taught by our existing team of teachers. We also welcome Mrs Player who will be teaching some of Miss Spurling’s lessons. Mrs Player is a very familiar face in our school having worked with us for many years and retired recently.

Year 9 students will be asked to make their options choices and their options evening is on 12th January. You will have received more detailed information about this via Mr Course. Please do make every effort to attend. The curriculum and options process has changed in comparison to previous years so it is very important to come along and be fully informed.

As ever please do get in touch if there is anything you would like us to know or support. Just a reminder of the contact email details for Achievement leaders:
