Letter from Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

This is my final letter of the year and I would like to start by thanking you for your support this term. We have had a very busy term and this week will be no different into the run up to the last day.

volleyballWe have had lots going on in school last week and particularly enjoyed a visit from Rachel Laybourne, from the 2012 GB Olympic Volleyball Team. She worked with our Year 11 talking about her focus as a sportsperson and how this can be applied to their learning. Then she also went on to coach our Volleyball teams. What an opportunity for them and the impact was instant – our Year 11 boys that afternoon went off to play in the County final and became County champions, with our girls team coming in as runner up.

We welcomed Mrs Baldwin back last week after her study tour to America. This was a fantastic opportunity to learn from excellent work overseas. Mrs Baldwin leads our outdoor learning programme and was awarded with a study scholarship to research how outdoor learning works in different contexts. We look forward to benefitting from this work.

This week we have lots of events going on –

  • Carol Service this evening at 6pm in St Mary’s Church.
  • Year 7 Roald Dahl showcase at school on Tuesday at 6pm.
  • Year 5+6 Disco hosted by one of our Enterprise Challenge Group, 5.30pm Wednesday.
  • Christmas Jumper Day and Christmas Dinner on Thursday.
  • End of term on Friday finishing with our usual end of term assembly.

Just a reminder that the school day ends at 1.45pm on Friday, a slightly earlier finish in line with other local secondary schools.

As we approach Christmas, please can I suggest that a fabulous stocking present is equipment for school – pens, pencils, ruler, rubber at the minimum is what every student should bring to school every day. We will be working on equipment after Christmas, just like we have on lateness in the past few weeks. We have reduced lateness by 80% over this time, so thank you very much for your support, these small things all add up to underpinning our high expectations.

Please accept my very best wishes for the festive season, we look forward to enjoying this week together and returning in the New Year on 4th January.

Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Whitcombe
