Letter from Headteacher

Dear Parents/Carers,
I wanted to start by thanking you for a very positive Academic Tutoring Day last week on Wednesday. We had our best attendance of students and parents, with an attendance rate of 98.05%. Year 7 and Year 8 showed a 100% attendance, very impressive indeed. Our work on these days allows us to focus on the next steps needed to keep learning accelerating and working together is our best way to ensure that this happens.

We are going to be focusing collectively across the school on punctuality and making sure that every minute of every lesson is used wisely. Our school day begins at 8.45 prompt and we are going to introduce a warning bell at 8.40 to remind students to be moving towards their tutor group areas. We will be monitoring lateness closely and discussing this in assemblies this week. We will be making use of time on Fridays after school for any late time to be made up. It is so important for students to be punctual and ready to learn and I thank you for your support in making sure this happens. My recommendation is that students aim to get into school before 8.40 to give them plenty of time to get to where they need to be.

In school on Friday we gathered together to mark a collective act of remembrance. We joined as a school community in our hall and listened to the last post together and observed a 2 minutes silence. The depth of thought and reflection from our young people was impressive. It was also very moving as we invited students in uniformed groups to wear their uniform to school. So many of these students then took part in the Haverhill remembrance parade on Sunday. It made me very proud indeed.

Just another reminder as the nights draw in and get dark earlier every week, please do talk to your child about their route home and make sure that they are walking the safest and lightest possible way.

As always, please do contact me via email on VWhitcombe@castlepartnership.org.uk or my PA, Gill Mitchell on GMitchell@castlepartnership.org.uk if you would like to book an appointment to meet with me,

Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Whitcombe
