Letter from Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,            20th November 2017

The wintery weather beckons and the nights are drawing in. I have sent our inclement weather letter out to you under separate cover, in case of any sudden snowfall. We have been very lucky that we have not had to make the difficult decision over school opening and weather for the past few years, and I hope very much the weather will stay suitable for us to stay open this winter. Only in extreme circumstances would I make the decision to close and we will communicate as per the additional letter.

We have had some fantastic sporting achievements since I last wrote and particularly notable is Eleanor Bunch’s successes at regional gymnastics, with 2 gold and 1 silver medals! Our Year 11 boys volleyball team are the District Champions and both their team and the girls team are through to the County Finals. We have supported the Primary school athletics competition with our Sports Leaders and we are also hosting 14 schools on Monday 20th November with our annual cross country. This is on top of lots of fixtures in badminton, netball, football and volleyball – it is certainly very busy!

A reminder of our consultation across the Samuel Ward Academy Trust Haverhill schools regarding term date changes for 2018-19. I am at school tonight at 6pm to listen to any feedback which I will send through to the central consultation feedback so that we can gather views and balance final decisions. If you would like to email your views please send them to GMitchell@castlemanor.org.uk

We maintain our high expectations of equipment, attendance and uniform. In our recent reviews of teaching and learning it was so noticeable how quickly children get straight in to learning now that they all have their equipment with them every day, it really does help make learning much more efficient. Thank you for your support with ensuring your children are well equipped and ready to learn.

As always I am happy to hear from you, whether you need my support solving an issue, or want to feedback positive or negatively to me, we can only improve with feedback, so please do contact me at any time on VWhitcombe@castlemanor.org.uk
