Letter from Headteacher

Dear Parents/Carers,                               10th July 2017

I just wanted to write to you this week to remind you of lots of events that are going on in school.

We start our Sports Day events today with the ‘Castle Manor Mile’ event at lunchtime. We then continue tomorrow for our main individual track and field events. Our new House Captains have been busy putting the teams together for this annual sporting celebration and we are really looking forward to the day. Students are to come to school in perfect PE kit for the whole day as they will be in and out of lessons taking part in events.

On Thursday we are hosting our whole school sponsored walk where each tutor group will raise money for The Back Up Trust in memory of Miss Morse who passed away last year. Tutor groups have been challenged to take part in fancy dress or a theme, such as carrying their favourite book. I have had a group of students approach me to ask for Sponsorship forms so that they can collect cash sponsorship rather than using our online site. The sponsor form is attached and paper copies have been made available. It also has the link to the online just giving site that we are using to collect donations. Students have also requested that Thursday is a non uniform day and students pay £1 to go towards the charity. I think that this is an excellent idea so we will have a non uniform day on Thursday too. The £1 payments will be collected by tutors in the morning registration. I suggest that students do not wear their fancy dress all day as they may get uncomfortable, but that they are able to change on the day at lunchtime or before the walk starts at 2pm. We will be selling ice cream and ice pops at the event so please send students in with some money so that they can purchase these if they wish to.

Finally this week also sees several evening events – our Haverhill Heroes awards, hosted by Year 7 on Wednesday evening at the Haverhill Arts Centre and our school production of Grease on Thursday and Friday. Tickets for Grease are available from main reception at school or on the door, but be aware that tickets are selling fast so please call 01440 705501 to reserve. The performance starts at 7pm.

Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Whitcombe
