Letter from Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,                                                           3rd July 2017

With only three weeks left we do start to look ahead to the new term, in spite of there still being lots to do in the last three weeks.

We have celebrated with Year 11 with their graduation and prom, and our sixth formers celebrated with a trip and meal together. We are looking forward to our sponsored walk, sports day, school production of Grease and our induction week where we welcome our new Year 7 students to the school in the last week of term.

We take time at this point in the year to evaluate our work and plan what we are doing next year. We are planning to slightly rearrange our school day – the start and end times will be the same, but the arrangements during the day will be made to give more time to tutor time and interventions, and our lunchtimes will be split so that we have less children at lunch at the same time. In addition we will have an extra serving area for food at break time and lunch time, where we are converting our large sixth form common room area into a café style food area. This will give much needed additional seating for break and lunch times.

We are also currently talking about our expectations for our students and how we can increase even further our focus on high quality learning. One of the key areas is being organised and responsible and a focus for this is having correct equipment. We will be issuing a basic stationery list that we expect every child to bring to school every day so that they are well prepared for learning. We are also discussing our stance on mobile phone and electronic device usage, and will be working with our new student parliament to look at how we move forward with appropriate use of mobile phones in school. If these are issues you feel particularly strongly about at all please do get in touch, I would really like to hear your views.

Please do come along and see our school production, tickets are available from the main reception, it looks to be a fantastic show!

Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Whitcombe
