Letter from Headteacher

Dear Parent/Carers,                                19th June 2017

I hope that you have been enjoying this recent outbreak of sunshine. It comes just as exams are starting to slow down for Year 11 and we are looking forward to their Graduation and Prom in the next two weeks. Year 13 are also working incredibly hard and we are very proud of all of our children’s efforts at this time of year.

We have had lots of sporting opportunities in the past few weeks, and are delighted that our Year 9 boys won the West Suffolk Athletics competition last week and qualified for the County Finals. Our girls team came in third place, so impressive outcomes all round.

This weather can be a challenge around school, with children feeling hot and bothered. I just wanted to reassure you that we are asking children to be very sensible and not wear their blazers when it gets warm, and if it gets too hot we will tell children to take ties off. We encourage students to bring bottled water to school with them and there are plenty of places to top up water bottles. Other drinks are not permitted in class due to the possibility of spillage and damaging work, but students are allowed to sensibly drink when necessary in this weather. We do expect children to fill their bottles up at break or lunch time and not to leave lessons to do this. We also encourage them to be sensible and not choose to run around getting overheated at break or lunchtime. As always a sensible approach is the key.

Later in the week you will receive a letter with the details of our whole school sponsored walk to raise money for The Back Up Trust, in memory of one of our teachers, Miss Julie Morse who sadly passed away last summer. I am hopeful that this will be a significant event that we can repeat annually as a school, taking time to gather together and show unity for a charitable cause.

I am still looking for a parent governor to join our governing body. Full training and support would be given, and if you would like to meet me to talk the role through and understand the level of commitment, please do get in touch and we can arrange to meet.

As always please contact me if you would like to on VWhitcombe@castlemanor.org.uk or my PA, Mrs Mitchell on GMitchell@castlemanor.org.uk

Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Whitcombe
