Letter from Headteacher

Dear Parents/Carers,

Our first two weeks back have flown by and we have settled well into the new term. I have been so impressed with the focus our students have shown and have seen excellent learning around school. Year 7 are getting to grips with life at Castle Manor very well indeed and it has been fantastic to see them enjoying their new subjects as well as the more familiar ones.

Thank you for the support you give ensuring your child is at school, on time and in correct uniform with correct equipment. This makes the start to the day positive and smooth for students and allows the key focus to be on lessons and learning. Attending school every day is vital and I want to remind you that we are committed to working closely with parents and children to ensure the highest possible attendance at school. Compelling evidence of the links between school attendance and examination performance emphasises the need for daily school attendance. We have a strong attendance team who contact you if there are concerns and who are also there to support you. Mrs Freds (LFreds@castlepartnership.org.uk) and Mrs Dobell (KDobell@castlepartnership.org.uk) can be contacted via email or telephoning the school. Holidays will not be authorised unless there are exceptional, unavoidable circumstances.

Our after school clubs and study support programme was issued last week. There is a wide range of different activities available, do encourage your child to get involved. If there are clubs that are not running that your child would be interested in, please contact Miss Weston on AWeston@castlepartnership.org.uk to offer your suggestions. If you are interested in contributing to our after school club programme, please also let us know – DBS checks will apply.

On Monday 26th September we have our Kickstart evenings for each year group. These are a new event that we have planned to ensure that Parents and Carers are all very clear about the year ahead. A paper letter will be coming home with your child today, please return the slip or email your child’s tutor to confirm attendance.

Another date for the diary is our Open Evening on 13th October from 6pm-8pm. This is our annual recruitment evening for new students and we enjoy having lots of current students supporting in subject areas and showing people around school, letters for student helpers will be out in good time so that you will know if your child is supporting the evening. If you have younger children and are making the decision of school choice, I encourage you to come along to the evening. Significant changes have been made in the school in the last year and so I am sure there are new things for you to find out about.

As ever, please do contact me with any feedback, on VWhitcombe@castlepartnership.org.uk or contact my PA, Mrs Mitchell, if you would like to book an appointment with me, GMitchell@castlepartnership.org.uk.

Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Whitcombe
