Letter from Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers, 15th May 2017

I am writing an additional letter to my usual fortnightly letters this week, just because there is a lot going on at Castle Manor at the moment and I wanted to make sure I communicated with you.

Firstly some lovely news that both Mrs Horne and Mrs Stoneham have new additions to their families. Both of them welcomed baby girls in the past two weeks and we sent our congratulations and love to them.

Recently in school we have found that we have been dealing with more issues of concerns around internet safety, with children who have become involved in communicating with strangers online and also unfortunately issues with sending and receiving inappropriate images. This is much more common than any of us would imagine and it is vital for parents to be very aware of their child’s online activity. We speak regularly to children in their lessons and through tutoring about e-safety, but must remain vigilant in the ever changing technological world. The following website is very helpful https://www.saferinternet.org.uk and we are more than happy to talk to you if you have any concerns about online activity and your child.

We have been working to plan fundraising events for the Backup Trust in memory of our colleague and friend Miss Morse. We are planning a whole school sponsored walk event in July to ensure that we can all participate and raise funds for this excellent cause. We will release more details as the plans come to fruition. We are also planning to unveil a memorial garden and reading area in the school in her name.

I also want to draw your attention to a community fundraising walk that is taking place on 25th June. This event may be of interest to our students and families and is being run by the Joshua Tarrant Trust. Joshua was a student at Castle Manor, who had huge impact on everyone that knew him. His family are well known in Haverhill for their fundraising, and I thought it would be appropriate to share their efforts with you and the opportunity to join in. I have attached a poster with further information.

You will recall that following our Ofsted one of our key actions was to galvanise the Local Governing Body. We have recruited 4 new governors who will be real assets to the team and are now looking to fill a Parent Governor vacancy. We will publish the related paperwork before half term, but if any parents are interested I would really like to hear from you, please do drop me an email or telephone the school. We are particularly interested in anyone who has skills and experience in finance, HR or with legal experience.

As ever, please contact me or my PA if you would like to meet with me or speak on the phone. My email address is VWhitcombe@castlemanor.org.uk and Mrs Mitchell’s is GMitchell@castlemanor.org.uk

Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Whitcombe
