Letter from Headteacher

Dear Parents and Carers,

Another fortnight has passed and I am writing to update you on events in school. I wanted to start by thanking you for your attendance and input to our second academic tutoring day of the year last week. It is always really positive to be able to see so many of you and to focus on how we work together with you to support and challenge our young people in their learning. Please can I take this opportunity to remind you that you are welcome to talk to and meet individual subject teachers as and when the need arises – please do contact form tutors or the teacher directly to arrange a telephone call or meeting.

We also were delighted with such a positive turnout for our Year 9 options evening, on a very miserable slightly snowy evening. Being able to talk to parents and students about the options process for this year was really important. A reminder that for those students selection forms are due in this Friday to your form tutor.

It is the season where flu bugs and sickness bugs tend to be prolific. Please can you help us to keep up with attendance monitoring by ensuring you contact us to let us know if your child is unwell. We work closely with Mrs Freds and Mrs Dobell on a daily basis to monitor and support good attendance at school and it is our goal that all students have excellent attendance. We are here to support you with any attendance concerns so please do call the school and work with us.

Last week we had a 2 day review working with leaders from our new Academy Trust. We had up to 10 different school leaders in our school looking at how children are learning in different subject areas. They also met with children and looked at the school in full operation. This process has been very helpful at reminding us of the things we do well and helping us to focus on the things that we are working to improve. One thing that really stood out to our visitors was how friendly, positive and caring our students are and this has made me very proud indeed.

As always, please do contact me if you would like to come and meet with me at school. We have slightly changed our email addresses, although the old addresses continue to work. My email address is VWhitcombe@castlemanor.org.uk and My PA, Mrs Mitchell is on GMitchell@castlemanor.org.uk.

Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Whitcombe
