Letter from Head of School

Dear Parents/ Carers,

I hope that you have enjoyed some of the sunny weather over the weekend. Although predictions are that it will get cooler in coming weeks, the long term forecast is for a hot summer. With this slightly warmed weather we have been able to open the field at lunchtime and students have been enjoying the opportunity to let off steam playing football or relax with a picnic lunch with friends. We are focusing on students being responsible for good timekeeping and prompt arrival at lessons following break and lunch – making sure they eat lunch and drink plenty during breaks. Please do talk to your children particularly to ensure they are drinking plenty of water during warm times. I also get asked questions about blazers during warm times. We expect blazers to be worn in and around school and teachers will certainly give permission for blazers to be taken off during lessons. If students are walking between sites or outside at lunchtime and wish to take off their blazer then they are absolutely welcome to. If the weather gets particularly hot we will tell children that they do not need to wear their blazers at all. These decisions are made usually when temperatures are very high and children should bring blazers in to school every day.

We are looking forward to our own referendum vote which we will hold on 7th June, alongside our vote for Head Boy and Head Girl. Understanding and being part of democratic processes is really important for our young people and I have been so impressed with their knowledge about the upcoming national referendum vote – it has led to some really interesting discussions with students.

There have been lots of sporting enrichment activities and fixtures now that the summer term is well underway. Our under 14 rounders team started their season this week with 2 great wins against Stowupland and Stour Valley. Our PE team use twitter to keep us all up to date with results – do follow them on @CastleManorPE.

Year 9 students are meeting with Mr Course to confirm options choices – please contact us to discuss anything that is of any concern regarding this process. Mr Course is available on DCourse@castlepartnership.org.uk.

Year 11 have completed their GCSE English exams already and further written exams really do get into full flow next week. They are working hard and some are feeling nervous and anxious. Please contact us if there is any further support you need with how to ensure your child is well prepared.

I am excited by our upcoming Year 7 camp, Mrs Baldwin has arranged a fantastic experience for Year 7 and I am very keen that they all participate. Building opportunities through outdoor learning and showing young people new experiences is vital from a young age and I encourage you to support your child to participate in this opportunity. Please contact Mrs Baldwin on BBaldwin@castlepartnership.org.uk if you would like to speak to her further about this.

As always I am very happy to meet or speak with you about anything regarding school life. Please contact my PA Mrs Mitchell by telephoning the school or emailing GMitchell@castlepartnership.org.uk to arrange a meeting or telephone call.

Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Whitcombe
