Letter from Head of School

Dear Parents and Carers,

The summer term has begun and the sun is starting to shine. I have had the pleasure over the past fortnight of carrying out several learning walks with visitors to the school and have been really impressed by what I have seen. These walks give me an opportunity to see the school through fresh eyes and our students always impress me. Visitors always comment on how polite our students are, how smart they look and how keen to learn and work hard they are.

Year 11 have their first written exam on 3rd May – this has come round very quickly. They have worked so hard and remain focused. This is a difficult time for young people and can be a time of stress, but their collective support of each other and determination is impressive. Year 12 and 13 also are facing exams a little closer to May half term. I wish all children sitting external exams the very best of luck.

Year 9 selected their options choices just before Easter, please be reassured that there is lots of work going on behind the scenes to enable us to give feedback regarding the outcomes of these choices. This does take some time as it is quite complex and please do contact us if you have any concerns. We aim to notify students and parents of the outcome of options by half term.

We are trying to reach as many people as possible through these fortnightly letters to parents and have collected updated email addresses from parents at our recent Academic Tutoring Day. If you have any friends or colleagues that are parents who are not receiving this letter please do encourage them to contact us with their up to date information.

As always I am happy to hear from parents at any time or to meet with you. Please do contact me on

VWhitcombe@castlepartnership.org.uk or my PA, Gill Mitchell on GMitchell@castlepartnership.org.uk.

Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Whitcombe

Head of School
