Letter from Head of School

Dear Parents/Carers,
The exam season has started very positively with Year 11 practical exams. In the past fortnight I have been so impressed with the amazing dishes produced by Catering students – choosing food from around the world, I have seen amazing sushi, panacotta, mexican cake, japanese curry, duck gyoza dumplings, onion bhajis, home made ice cream and creme brûlée and that is only a few of the highlights. We really do have some very talented students. Our twitter feed shows some pictures of the fantastic work. Year 11 are also undertaking their English Speaking and Listening exams, producing their own persuasive speeches about topics close to their hearts. It is fascinating to see what they choose to talk about and very impressive. Year 11 were also issued the Easter Revision school schedule to sign up for sessions – this is a kickstart to their revision over the holidays and certainly not the only revision or work they should be doing. Subject teachers are providing lots of exam papers and resources for children to use, please do make sure you are talking to them about it.

Thank you all for your support with Mrs Baldwin’s Growing Together project in Tesco – I was pleased to see it looked like our cause had collected the most counters when I was shopping on Friday, but we await the final count. This project impacts wider than our school and will include work with local organisations such as Sandcastles Nursery and Suffolk Mind.

Year 9 have been busy choosing their choices for Key Stage 4 courses – their forms should be in to their tutor now so that we can start to process and look at the timetabling of lessons for next year. If there are any students who have not submitted their forms please talk to tutors, Heads of House or Mr Course if you need any more support.

We enjoyed World Book Day on Thursday and I was seriously impressed with some of the dressing up costumes that were on display. Miss Neal put together an excellent programme of events and students enjoyed the daily clues for the secret book.

We have Academic Tutoring Day coming up at the end of Term, please do make sure you have booked your appointment through the online booking process. Also please remember that you are welcome to make contact with subject teachers at any time if you would like to discuss the specifics for your child in a particular subject. My PA Mrs Mitchell can help you to make contact with any member of staff in the school – she is contactable on GMitchell@castlepartnership.org.uk or staff contact details are available on our website.

As always, please do feel free to contact me on VWhitcombe@castlepartnership.org.uk if you would like to arrange a conversation or meeting with me or any of the team.

Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Whitcombe
Head of School
