Letter from Head of School – 23rd May 2016

Dear Parents/ Carers,
This weekend a group of our students are away on a Netball Tour weekend. I have been following their progress keenly on twitter on @CastlemanorPE. At current standing Year 7 are through to the cup final – what an excellent first tour for them! We have been using social media increasingly to connect with parents and students – many of our teams have dedicated Castle Manor twitter accounts and are regularly tweeting links to revision for Year 11.

However social media is not always positive and I am very aware through our work with young people at school that they are not always safe, or kind on social media. We hosted an Irish boyband ‘Taken’ last week to help our Key Stage 3 students to think about being safe on the internet. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all students, and staff.

Our community growing projects are developing very well. Mrs Baldwin worked this week with students to plant fruit plants in our raised beds, these will hopefully be harvested and enjoyed by the school community and Sandcastles nursery.

Year 9 students have been working with Mr Course to confirm options. Letters are being sent to each child to confirm choices, but please do contact us if there are any concerns at all. We have worked with students and parents over the past weeks and made changes wherever possible to ensure that each student gets the most appropriate pathway possible.

Half term is upon us at the end of the week and time has flown quickly. There is still much to do and a huge amount of learning to be covered. Exams are continuing and I am very proud of the hard work I am seeing from students currently taking exams. Before the end of the year all students in all years will have experienced formal exams and should be working towards them now. Timetables are on the school website and have been given to children by their tutors.

At this time of year we do start looking to September. If you are purchasing any new uniform over this period or before September please can I ask that you ensure that trousers bought are not ‘skinny’ but are business like tailored trousers without a high lycra content.

Please do contact me through my PA, Gill Mitchell on GMitchell@castlepartnership.org.uk if you would like to speak to me, I am always very happy to talk with and meet parents.

Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Whitcombe
