Letter from Head of School

Dear Parents/Carers,
I very much hope that you and your children have enjoyed the half term holiday, it has been a busy time since Christmas and I know that students and staff were certainly ready for a rest.

Our Flanders Trip returned in the evening of the last day before the holidays and had a fantastic time learning about the events in Ypres in World War 1. Visiting areas such as The Menin Gate and different war cemeteries provided lasting reminders of lives lost and important lessons of the enormity of war.

Year 9 will have been considering their options choices for their Year 10 and 11 studies. They will be speaking with their tutors this week to confirm they are happy with their choices and submit their forms. If you have any concerns or would like to talk further about the process, please do contact your child’s tutor or Mr Course on DCourse@castlepartnership.org.uk

Mrs Baldwin has been very busy in her outdoor learning role – a real strength across our partnership. We were delighted to hear that the Castle Partnership along with St Felix Primary school have secured over £3000 in funding from Polli-nation. Castle Manor will lead the cluster of schools to receive training and support to create areas to attract pollinators. Polli-nation will work with students, teachers and families to create habitats and over three years we will be able to monitor the impact we’ve had on improving biodiversity in our school environments. In addition next week in the Haverhill store Tesco shoppers will be able to vote for our ‘Growing Together project’ which offers our schools, Suffolk Mind and Sandcastles Playgroup funding to work together creating ‘Fruitful communities’. Our funding bid Proposal is to install raised fruit beds, fruit cages, poly tunnels and purchase junior tools for students, teachers and families to use. Please take the time to support another great green project. Depending on how many votes we get the funding is worth between £8000 and £12000.The funding is kindly supported by Tescos ‘ Bags of help’ scheme. We are always delighted to be involved in leading community projects – learning certainly doesn’t just happen in the classroom.

As ever please do contact me on VWhitcombe@castlepartnership.org.uk or my PA Mrs Mitchell on GMitchell@castlepartnership.org.uk if you would like to speak with me or come to meet me or any of the leadership team.

Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Whitcombe Head of School
