Letter from Head – 12th April 2016

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am looking forward to welcoming students back to school today for the summer term. A term which is always my favourite, in spite of all the exams! The days are longer, children get involved in more enrichment activities after school – sports clubs, music events, dance classes, school performance rehearsals, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and outdoor learning opportunities. Being involved in these types of activities help young people to develop different types of friendships and to really challenge themselves in different ways. I really enjoy seeing students on the stage or competing in school teams or for their house team on Sports Day. Our musical performance at the end of term is The Wizard of Oz and we saw a snapshot of the show at our recent Night at the Musicals – it looks to be fantastic, watch out for ticket sales soon.

Our older students have exams coming up and many spent time with their teachers in school over the Easter holidays in revision workshops. This is a tough time for students and they must make sure they are looking after themselves, eating well, sleeping well and of course working hard. Support is available for students and parents, please do get in touch with your child’s Tutor or Head of House if there is anything that you wish to talk about.

As we start the new term please take time to check that the uniform your child is wearing still adheres to our policy expectations – I have included an attachment to remind you. Footwear and trousers seem to be the biggest issues that we have and we appreciate your support ensuring that our businesslike uniform is adhered to. It was designed by students for students and I think it is important to remember and support our student leaders with this.

We are looking at installing brand new student lockers for the new term in September, following on from feedback from our young people. We are using an external company and are hoping to provide secure lockers for approximately £18 per year hire cost. In order to go ahead with this we will need to gauge how many lockers we will need to provide and a letter will be sent out before half term for you to reply to express your interest.

We said goodbye and thank you to Ms Vigar at the end of last term for her huge contribution to Castle Manor and Castle Partnership Academy Trust over the past 13 years. We also said goodbye to Miss Harvey who came to the end of her short term contract. We welcome Mr Faulkner to teach History, covering Mrs Jones. Mr Morson and Ms Leeming are also not returning after the Easter break due to personal reasons, we are putting in place timetable changes for these lessons.

You received a letter before Easter talking about plans for the next steps for the Castle Partnership Academy Trust and a formal consultation will begin shortly regarding the proposal to join with the Samuel Ward Academy Trust. You will be asked your views during the consultation but if you have any questions or feedback please do contact Jason Andre, our Partnership Marketing Manager, on JAndre@castlepartnership.org.uk

As always I appreciate your support and feedback, please contact me on VWhitcombe@castlepartnership.org.uk if you would like to arrange to meet with me or speak with me about any issues.

Yours sincerely,

Vanessa Whitcombe

Head of School
