Leadership Team Blog, Head of School, Matthew Gibson

One of the things, in fact the main thing I love about my job is that it is so varied and that I get to spend time with such a wide range of people on a weekly, daily or even an hourly basis.

This week has contained some real extremes as I have had the twin delights of sharing a Christmas lunch at Place Farm Primary Academy on Wednesday lunchtime with Year 5 and 6 students at one end of the spectrum and attending a meeting in Ipswich with other Suffolk school leaders about ensuring access to school places is fair across the county. I’ll let you decide which I enjoyed more!

However, I was struck by something similar from both occasions – that those people involved in education and improving the life chances of young people in Haverhill and Suffolk are so positive about the difference that education can make and are so committed to doing the very best that they can. To use a cliché, it is what gets them out of bed in the morning, even on the darkest of December mornings.

Looking ahead to next week, the variety continues, with the Castle Partnership Carol Service on Monday evening, Castle Manor’s Christmas lunch on Thursday and a variety of end term and Christmas activities. One thing that will not vary though is the commitment to doing the best we can for all our young people, whatever their background, skills or capabilities.
