Leadership Team Blog – Friday 10th October

Matthew Gibson

Head of School.

This week we have had the pleasure of welcoming visitors from Holland on Tuesday and Wednesday. They spent the day in school with their penpals, visiting lessons and getting the Castle Manor experience before visiting Wimpole Hall on Thursday. The teachers that accompanied the students from Holland were extremely complimentary about their visit and are very keen to return the hospitality with a return visit to Holland. This is something we are investigating for next year and I have already had one e-mail from a student who wants me to make this happen!

Yesterday we launched the Year 11 challenge with students who will take their GCSEs next year. I shared with them the fact that they have probably spent over 2000 days at school since they started nursery or reception, but may have as few as 115 left – this brought the importance of the next few months into stark contrast! The students then took part in the designing of a personal slogan and goal as well as collective actions that they are going to take to ensure that they achieve the best set of results that they possibly can. Their slogans will shortly appear around the school site as a regular reminder of what they have signed up to – they have been very ambitious!

Finally and as an extension to Mrs Horne’s blog last week, our theme for the week has been “Love and Compassion”. Given this, I thought I would share a couple of the thoughts for the day we have shared during tutor time.

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted”

“A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal.”

A reminder that our next Head of School forum is scheduled for 20th October at 3.30pm. Please let us know if you are able to come and discuss general issues related to the school.
