HPV Vaccinations – Information for Year 8 Girls

As part of England’s National School Based Immunisation Programme, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination is offered to girls in Year 8, a 1st dose offered between April 2015 and July 2015, with a 2nd dose offered to them in Year 9 in the Summer Term.

Attached below is a leaflet describing the disease and the benefits of the HPV vaccination. We hope it helps you in making an informed choice about vaccinating your child against the Human Papilloma Virus. If you need a hard copy of the form they are available from the Student Advice and Guidance Centre.

The vaccination is free on the NHS and will be available at your daughter’s school. Once you have read the accompanying information, please discuss it with your daughter. If you both decide that you would like her to have this vaccination, please sign the consent form attached below (you both need to sign it) and return to the Student Advice and Guidance Centre soon. all letters must be returned by 13th April 2015.

In March 2014, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) revised its existing recommendation to change from a 3 to a 2 dose schedule. Recent research shows that antibody response to 2 doses in adolescent girls is as good as a 3 dose course in the age group where efficacy against persistent infection and pre-cancerous lesions has been demonstrated.
